Hope you can help..my male dog had some action a while ago..on the bottom part or edge of his top lip..there is a small wound that would not heal..had his Pendistrep Anti-B shot after...he is all in good shape and all scars is healed up,but this part looks like it is rotting or binding away..it is about as big as your thumb nail..never seen this type of thing before..it just stays like that..doesnt form a dry scab..stays raw ???? If you would like too see i can send a pic of it?
Anyone had such a problem before? Treatment?

The flesh is rotting away, because you didn't flush the little hole out, and also because he hasn't received proper antibiotic treatment.
What you said brought two things to mind: 1) why do you only give "one" antibiotic shot afterward?, and 2) be aware that penicillin is low on the totem pole of good antibiotic choices.
At this point, I would put him on cephalexin, and keep him on this drug for a proper duration. If he does not respond within 3 days, then a different antibiotic is needed. In addition, I would be flushing his wound with Betadine, and I would then be using Granulex as well.
In fact, you might want to read my Understanding Antibiotics (http://www.thepitbullbible.com/forum/content.php?176) and Hot Compresses (http://www.thepitbullbible.com/forum/content.php?165) articles, because they contain a ton of information that will be of benefit to you.
Good luck,
Jack

In the area of treating little pinhole bite wounds with Betadine, this (http://www.kvsupply.com/KVVet/productr.asp?pf_id=80025&gift=False&HSLB=False&mscssid=052F432C387A4CBABCE5DB386130AD45) is an invaluable tool :)
