The most well rounded dogs I've seen with any consistency over the years of messing with Redboy dogs have been the Deacon dogs. I would say Yellow John is a close second, but he's not a Redboy dog.

got a ?, if Yellow Johns' not a Redboy dog what would you suspect his lineage to be, just a conversation piece.
Gr Ch Yellow=Hemphill/Mayfield cross, Gr Ch Mayday=Hemphill/Mayfield x Hollingsworth? that he may have been a Hemphill descendant has been kicked about from time to time about him and his supposed sire (although I think CYJ has dispelled that rumor to some degree)...any other possibilities or maybe even facts to dispute his ancestry? I know this late in the game we ride, what we ride regardless.

The information I got in regards to Yellow John NOT being a Redboy dog came from a man that was friends with Fletcher for many years. The dog came from Jake Wilder not Hemphill. There's a picture with the dog on it, and on the back is a hand written note that says, "Sent to Carolina. Now known as Yellow John." Now, people can call Yellow John a Redboy dog if they want, but that picture along with confirmation from the other individual, tells ME what I need to know. There are people alive that know how the dog is bred. Whether they will tell the truth or not is up to them.

As to why, Bass put the stiffler to Fletcher over some breeding, so Fletcher fought fire with fire, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I've never seen a Mims dog I liked, Redboy or otherwise. Hunter Red overpowered most of what he was bred to so badly that a lot of them turned out to be like him, it didn't matter if it was only 1/4 Hunter in there. I never saw any Britches type dogs, and wish I would've. I liked the Cottingham dogs I've seen for the most part.

I have a nice Boomer bred bitch, but I think that hunter red and deacon stuff is what makes them boomer dogs click like that (pit stops red)too. I am waiting for her to come in heat so can breed her to this Cottingham semen. Hopefully something good comes out of it.

The Mims strain of the Redboy is by far my favorite. During one stretch he had three pure studs Spiffy, Punch and Jiggs. All three consistently delivered their own set of traits to their offspring. During that same stretch there were two bitches Lucky and Rainbow that were Snooty/Bolio and Bolio/Snooty. These blends made some fine dogs.Between these three dogs the "50%/25%/25%" dogs seemed to be the best.
Plus the dogs came from a man with over fifty maybe sixty years tied to these dogs. I spoke with him on the phone a few months ago and a quick registry (by far the best registry on the planet) question turned into a near two hour conversation. I pulled over on the side of the highway as not to miss anything he dropped. Huge fan of the Mims redboy dogs. EWO

I was talking to my good friend and partner Downtown and I was chatting with him about Redboy dogs and he said that Taz was the best producing redboy dog he ever saw. He said the carver dogs that were bred to him were average at best, yet everything off those dogs to Taz were complete monsters that could finish you early or dig deep and put in four hours. Basically, Taz produced himself, you could breed him to a dalmatian, and you would get winning finishing high ability gaaame bulldogs.

WC and I have combined both the Boomer dogs and Taz. Taz is tigter Redboy given that he is Boomer's mom bred to Deacon then the littermate, Hunter Red himself, but its the same family. That being said, I have tremendous respect for all that Pit Island has preserved, and give credit where it is due. I like the Red Boy dogs. From my experience, and not knocking how people do things, when it is all one strain of Red Boy from one breeder the performance and soundness fades. In that pedigree there are several strains. Bingo was Bingo but Deacon was Deacon. Richardson's Cream has some influx of others but brought back to the Red Boy family. The Apache and Medlin's Outlaw worked well going back to a string of Red Boy dogs.

A friend of mine says you can have too much of one person's Red Boy but you can never have too much of every one's Red Boy.

Nice pedigree.

Nice dogs to have in the pedigree.

I have a Red Boy/Eli cross female that for whatever reason she pulled Red Boy traits even through the crosses. She looks like Brandy Girl spit her out from way back when.

She is high drive, will stay all night, shows finish. She has above average to well above average mouth.

I also have a Heavy Mims Red Boy male to a Waccamaw female. This dog is as sweet a 13 month old puppy as any one has ever owned. Zero interest in other dogs, no signs on the chain whatsoever. So me being the dummy that I am was moving dogs and had one by the collar and went thru her chain space. She showed no signs until we were within striking distance. She went ape shit and hit that dog like she was grown. I got the dog out of the spot and like a light switch she went back to being the sweetest little puppy in the world. Those two strains of Red Boy are mixing very well.

Li Man (4XW) is another great example of the Mims Red Boy crossed to RBJ. Even when the Red Boys are crossed the different strains amp the ante.
