I had been trying to run down some info on this dog. Have finally made contact with Middleton recently, this is the story he gave me as of today. When I first heard about this dog it was at a get together up near J.Johnson's place. This fellow with a last name of Hampton told us he owned a full sibling male to J. Johnson's Rage bitch. He showed our group the ADBA papers. ADBA papers showed Hampton's Boze.
C. Middleton at a later date bought Boze from Hampton for around $2500.00 and later sold Boze to M. June/A. Howle combine for $5000.00. Later A. Howle/M. June sold Boze to F. Jacobs for another $5000.00. Lastly F. Jacobs sold Boze back to the J. Bunch/Parker combine for another $5000.00. This dog was popular and held his value.LOL
From some notes I read, Barney Fife won two with the dog, M. June won one and F. Jacobs won one with this 52 LB Black and White sibling brother, to J. Johnson's Rage. Boze like his sibling Johnson's Rage was a very rough, hard pressure biting dog. In one dog pull, the ring had to be washed out and parts removed before any more dog pulls could continue. Boze was a cannibal type dog and would try and dispatch a dog fast in order to eat it.
J. Bunch also had another big dog named Bo. This Bo dog was a full brother to M. Gainey's CH Apple dog. So there was some confusion when this subject would came up. The C. Middlleton's (Truett's Prince ) dog was a direct sibling off the Boze dog and in a dog pull. Truett's Prince stopped the J. Bunch's Bo dog dead in his tracks. Not only being a excellent producing dog like his sire Boze. The Truett's Prince dog was a good show dog as well.
Back then A. Howle and M. June said they had Boze but never showed Boze to the rest of us. The breeding's of Boze to the Face bitch was done before I owned the Chandler's Face bitch. This breeding was done when J. Bunch/Parkers had Boze. One of the Parker brothers told me that out of the litter off Boze and Face. C. Middleton bought one of the bitches he named White Gal. White Gal was later bred to R. Jones Sundance dog. A bitch out of that breeding was named White Girl (Baby) and later bred back to Boze again. Two off those dogs were Middleton's Snow bitch and R. Jones' Big Head dog.
The Middleton's Snow bitch was bred into the Garner dogs and was one of the reasons Garner later had a interest in the now CH Garner's Dolly bitch. Whom he liked a lot
Middleton said all these breeding's produced some good dogs for him and Garner. I asked him about his Black Betty bitch. He told me he checked Betty out for around 45 minutes when Betty was a little over two years old. That Betty acted and scratched like a game dog. Just did not have a lot of mouth ability etc. that her sire Holt's Jeramiah was known for.
The question came up about the quality of the Loposay's Buster dog. Middleton told me in a talk with Mr. Lopsay's oldest daughter not long after Mr. Lopasay passed. That Buster got off his chain and killed several of their dogs before getting Buster back on his chain.
Middleton told me he had a conversation with Maurice Carver about this Loposay's Buster dog. Carver told Middleton he felt like Buster was a very good dog and liked Buster as much as the Holt's Jerimiah dog.
Boze like many of those Eli/Boudreaux dogs were territorial type dogs around their owner and on their chain towards strangers. Not long after those last breeding's to Boze. One of J. Bunch's daughters got too close to Boze and got her hand mauled. J. Bunch shot Boze, got rid of the rest of his dogs and quit the dog game.
Now for the spooky part of this story. Cecil told me after he bought Boze and brought him to his dog yard. When he took Boze out of the crate to take the dog to it's chain hook up. Boze like a man walked near shoulder high with Cecil, not bouncing but walking with a stride and front legs moving like arms. All the way to the chain hook up, which was a decent walking distance for a dog on it's hind legs.
Middleton said it freaked him out, and on later days when going onto the dog yard. Other dogs would be running around or pulling forward on their chains. Boze would be standing up walking around and looking at Middleton eye to eye. To me that would be sort of creepy. LOL Cheers
