Looks good, how long do they usually last before a change is needed?

Thank you and Im not exactly sure as Ive seen them intact for close to 20 yrs, however I would change them as soon as I would have a reasonable doubt. IMO

I have 10 of those swivels on my dogs, and I've had no issues with them at this point. I would gladly order another 10 more if need be. They are relatively new, but I don't foresee them needing to be changed on any regular basis. They are made out of quality material, and I don't see or anticipate any issues from using them.

I think they are awesome. Especially since you XRay and all of that. I love it.
I have one thought though. I see you are making the collar side of the swivel out of a quick link. How hard would it be to make that side out of a Ring instead of a quick link?
I see a ring, or circle, being more comfortable to the dog than something that flat and wide.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Or a big O ring on each end.Other one hole might be to little for the swivel on the chain. So go with two turning O rings.

TXdogs
12-07-2013, 03:04 PM
The smaller hole is aprox 5/8" to 3/4" grade 70 chain link, so that is plenty space for another quick link or cold shut to fit through.

Placed an order on Friday.
Swivels built and shipped Monday.
Tracking numbers sent to me by Tues
Arrival suppose to be today - WED

I don't think there's anything to say about the quality of the swivels, but I'll be glad to share here when I get them. But the customer service was EXCELLENT. None better. I don't this guy from Adam, but he was nothing but courteous, polite and professional and SUPER FAST.

THANKS

I'll let you know when I get them

No problem on the idea. I think is a great design.

Again, fellows, I have no history with Txdogs in anyway. I'm real happy to see him designing this swivel. Do the math men. You cant put together a QUALITY swivel, ring set up cheaper than this and it is NOT as good a swivel for your dog. I have my hands on them, exactly when he said I would and I can tell you - TOP NOTCH. Since he cuts the ring on the weld, you don't need 2 rings as you SHOULD if doing it the old way. You don't have to spend $7 on the swivel itself or an extra near $2 for the EXTRA cold shut you need for the rings to the swivel. All you need is Txdogs swivel and one cold shut. It's either the same price or cheaper and WAY BETTER.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Yessir... The fact of knowing these swivels contribute to " a proper containment method" is enough for me to be satisfied. As most of us know, a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. With that said, let's ensure there is more than enough support for the dogs.

Bumping this up as I'm curious if anybody else on here has had an issue with the chain binding up using these swivels?

I bought 5 from TXDogs about 2 years ago and even though the 5 are still in use, I have had an issue with them all getting stuck somehow and kinking up the chain. I let TXDogs know the issue and I'm not sure if he ever gapped it different to try to fix the issue or not. When it's kinked up I will stretch the chain out to try to let the swivel spin free but it won't spin at all. I have to take my hand and turn the swivel myself until it's no longer kinked. And then I spray WD-40 on it and it's good for a while but it never fails, it will kink up again eventually. The latest time was just yesterday. I think I'm going to switch them out before the cold months hit as I can't have a dog that can't get in their house to warm up.

Just curious if this has happened to anybody else? Or maybe I just got a bad batch of 5.

Brokeback that's no good, maybe you should ask for replacements? We switched several years ago to stainless steel swivels and they seem to be the best for us. No issue with them and very little wear.

To be honest, if he didn't offer it I wasn't going to ask. Just figured I'd switch them out. I like them except for that reason. The stainless ones you all are using now, are they store bought? I always used TSC swivels and throughout the years I have never had one kink up on me. I think I'll just go back to those and cold shuts and o rings. Thanks for the reply.

I have one and I inherited in with a dog some years back. I did not like it at first based on appearance as the strength and durability is deceiving. I have the same dog on that swivel for 6 going on 7 years.

I did not have kinking but they did ride up the side of the neck using a 2" collar. I switched to one of Stillwater's 1.5" collars and have had no issues.

It is funny how this thread pops up. A friend of mine is retiring in a week or so from the power company. In congratulating him my comment was, "How am I going to pay for swivels now?". In 25 years I can't remember buying a swivel.

If these are available I would buy a few. Anything that lasts six years on a bulldog is worth its weight.

I only have one like the one in the thread. Mine all came off the back of a power line truck. Been free for a number of years. I see them in tractor supply but they are high. O'Brien's Supply has one that looks nice but I have never tried one myself.

Any pics? Like I said, I can't remember actually buying one from a store in a long time. Mine came off the back of a line truck. I am not sure how they use them in putting up poles but I was getting them for nothing or next to nothing.

I now need a source. Interested in what is best?

I've had the best luck with Stainless Steel, they hold up well, never bind up and wear great. I just shop online, have bought a few I've found in hardware type stores.

Haven't bought from this company but mine look nearly identical. They are priced right.
