? Question about your single board house plans

the base is 36''x24'', but the back and front are 26''x26'' and 26''x22''. When I went to add the 2x2's to the front and back then attach those to the base it was too wide, and not flush. Did I mis-understand something in the plans?

It was compensating for the 1" thickness of the plywood attached on the outside.

I am sure better carpenters could make it better than I :lol:

Take a close look at the image ... the 24" represents how wide the base is ... but, if you're affixing 1"-thick plywood on the sides, then you're adding another 1" twice ... to the dimensions of the front panel are 26" to compensate for this.

Understood, but how it reads is that the front panel should be 26'' wide and when it's cut like that and the base is only 24'', you can't affix the 2x2's to the base because the front and back panel are too wide. If I take an inch off the front panel on each side, it will sit flush and only then can I attach the supported 2x2's to the base. As long as the front and back panel sit flush, you can attach the sides. The sides will sit flush based upon the sitting of the 2x2's in the front and back. After the sides are attached, then It might measure to the 26''. If you cut the front and back panel's to 26'', you will run in to trouble trying to mount it to the base.

Okay, here is where the confusion is: I screw the 2x2 onto the front panel first, not to the base.

I allow for enough overhang ... and get the 2x2 screwed onto the front first, then I screw the front & back panels onto the bottom ... then I put on the sides.

Yes, yes, but, when I cut the front and back panel to 26'' the add the 2x2's to the fron and back, the 2x2's don't line up with the base edge, it's too wide. The overhang is good on the top and bottom, but the panel's with the 2x2's attached are to wide to attach them to the base. I will post pics of what I'm saying in the A.M

See where the arrow is at on the bottom pic? Even though its attacth, it's just as wide as the base, there is no way that in that pic the base is 24'' and those panel's are 26''.

I have been building this dog house this week and have run into the same problem as Blak. The instructions show the base width to be 24" and to cut the front and back panels to 26" wide. If you do this there is too much overhang on the sides of the panels and it does not sit flush with the base. The panels should be cut to 24" wide to line up flush with the width of the base. The size and placement of the 2x2's works fine. It's just the width of the panels that is the problem. I had to cut the panels to 24" wide in order to attach the side boards and have everything line up.
