View Full Version : Curled tail
A dog who's tail curls over their back, someone told me that is a sign of a cur. Any comments or experience.

I am pretty sure that you know that a dog with her tail erect is confident and in control. The exact opposite is the dog with her tail tucked between her legs. Whether she's talking to you or to another dog, the message is the same: "I give up!" Just because a dog's tail is down doesn't mean she's frightened, though. A relaxed dog may keep her tail lowered, although not between her legs.
(A dog's tail between his or her legs can also just simbolize that she is SHY"

I had an old timer tell me that about one of my dogs, and all I did was laugh
The only "sign" of a cur is slacking-off in their single-minded intensity to win ... or the actual quit itself.
A lot of people think "fuzzing up at the back of the tail" is a sign of a cur too, but I have had dogs do that while they're chasing a flirt-pole; they're just geeked-up

Correct me if I am wrong but a curled tail comes from genetics (just like "bat ears"). Also the bushy tail and the "longer haired" dogs come from genes. It has nothing to do with heart!
I had a dog that could not raise his tail because his rear end curved down. People said "he is not flagging he is going to quit". He never did it was a genetic flaw to his tail but not his heart.
Its pure BS.

tail curled what bro the person who told you that is stuck on stupid
Its called a "gay tail". As far as genetics go I don't believe it is genetically inherited, just my opinion though and that is because I had a dog that had a gay tail, the only one out of the litter with a gay tail and the dogs sire and dam didn't have gay tails and the generation before that didn't have gay tails. I think it is more an "it happens" type of thing.

Working dogs come in a variety of looks. This is because they are bred down off dogs that WORKED. Not bred based off looks. This is bulldogs 101, the basics.
If the dog is game who freaking cares about the damn tail. I don't.
Look at the dog on the the home page of the ADBA. Its tail isn't as curled as your dog but it is curled more than most.

Back when i was breeding with B.Davis, I personally did not breed to "Midnight Cowboy" and he was standing right next to me. I was up there to breed o the other 2 "Chivo & Boomerang" but back to the tail curl, that was always a trait of the Cowboy dogs and I have seen probably a 100 or more, and as things got intense it would even curl more, so really it is just a trait from some lines as I can see. I was very good friends with l. Kelley that owned "Divines Jodie" just never put her in his name because we all in the same area and friends. But I have seen him take "Jodie" which was bred from (M.Cowboy x Patty) 3 times and bred her to "Chivo" and watched many of the offspring and seems 95% of them would have that curl in the tail.

Longer coats could be from their environment. In colder climate, dogs will acclimate to their environment and may get a thicker coat. We have seen it with dogs from the Northwest.
Clemmon's Brendy had the thick curly tail. Possible trait from the Boudreaux side of the dogs. Every now and then you might get a screw tail from any blood line.
If I had a fuckin dollar for every sign that made a dog a cur I'd be richer than bill gates, some people you've just gotta hang up the damn phone on. Or if they're right in front of you just look at them for a couple seconds.

I have a Wildside with a gay tail. She is only about 2 years old. I know the ADBA judges dont mind the tail in conformation. She has won a few first places and a couple seconds showing.

Looks like a bit of a mix of different text my photo shop just shows them as special characters, never knew they would be so amusing.
