View Full Version : To crop or not to crop?

I would like to hear other people's opinion on why they would crop their dog's ears or why they wouldn't crop it? Does it has any effect in the box or not?
I had a dog of mine cropped because one of its ears started to flop backward. Sometimes I wished I had saved it.
When I was younger a bulldog was just not a bulldog if he had ears. I changed with time and now I like the ears intact. If nothing else it adds character to the dog. I have had them that both flop over on the tips which is way cool. I have had the batman standup ears which, for me, is not all that attractive. I have even had them with one up and one down.
I can't say it has an effect in the box. Maybe some others have seen a pro or con in the box but I can't say that I have. EWO

when I was younger I thought that was how they were suppose to look. Now I find myself cringing when I see someone with their dogs ears cropped. I never personally owned a dog with cropped ears when even I thought it was the thing to do, in part cuz I could never justify paying cash for the operation lol. Never got ballsy enough to try and crop them myself.

I think it's strictly cosmetic just a look some people prefer. I doubt it will have any advantage in a box situation....

Guess the only thing it would help against is an ear dog, but if they get deep in the canal instead of riding the flopping ear you will wish your hound still had long ears..

no advantage
real ear/head dog attaches himself to the head, not the ear
i hate the look of a cropped ear dog
all natural for me
Ok so a real ear dog wouldnt have disadventedge. But some dogs just prefer defending on the ear. Dont know what they would do if one opponent suddenly doesnt have them.
I wouldnt remove them and i think its stupid to remove them as for an advent edge. Golden king docks the tail and crops the ear for all match dogs. I think its ridiculous.

Agreed.
I was pissed that Leon cropped Stormbringer's (http://www.thepitbullbible.com/forum/bulldog_profile.php?dog_id=211) ears.
I only cropped 1 dog's ears (Red Angel (http://www.thepitbullbible.com/forum/bulldog_profile.php?dog_id=7440)), but I wouldn't ever waste my time cropping another's ever again.

Was always curious to why stormbringer had his ears done. I figured he had bat ears.

I would rather have a dog on the ear the in the ear. Needless to say I keep the ears. I also think that cropped ears look like shit and the only folk I see with cropped ears are those who own "bullies"

No, I sold Stormy to Leon Wilson back in 1995, and he cropped them himself with a razor.
Stormy had unique, thick, beautiful ears that "fell forward" over the front of his forehead and gave him a lot of personality ... still pisses me off that his ears were cut
