View Full Version : R.I.P.
It is with a heavy heart that i announce the passing of a very close friend of mine , she was a true warrior in every way. her death was a result of lack of ability on my part to identify and treat a illness for which i have not had the opportunity to witness before ( it will never happen again). She handled this situation like all others in her life straight on, no turns, and game till the end . She will be missed dearly and as a result of her passing I have truly lost a dear and close friend, one that can not be replaced.

What disease was that
It might look a lot you have to have on hand when you read jacks book.(including the aftermath) But when you don't, you're going to regret it one day, for each thing you didnt bother to buy. Dont wait for it , cause you will loose dogs.
Some medication can be hard to obtain but for not having berenil theres is no excuse since its so simple to legaly order.
Good luck
Sorry for your loss though. We all make mistakes.

The only way babesia could wipe out "an entire yard" would be if the owner was way beyond stupid ...
The truth is, no one should be caught "unaware" now, in this day and age, with all the information that's out there. Period.
However, if a person still gets caught ignorant, and with their pants down, ONCE (as is what happened here), they will never forget the symptoms (or experience) again ...

This is true, inevitably it's the good ones, the irreplaceable ones, the favorite ones that die. The cur rolldog lives no matter what. It's a hard lesson to learn. My deepest sympathies. I'm sure you'll be better prepared next time

There has been an Articles Tab (http://www.thepitbullbible.com/forum/articles.php) at the top of every page on this Resource since the end of 2011
So the Articles Section would be a great place to start looking :embarrassed:
Those who bother to do so will find that the article How to Beat Babesia (http://www.thepitbullbible.com/forum/content.php?157) has been posted here since 2/27/12
I am sorry, but I have very little patience (or hope) for people who don't have the intellectual wherewithal (or even curiosity) to learn about diseases, drugs, etc. IMO, a person who just "looks at pedigrees" ... or who talks about "doing dogs" ... but who has ZERO nutrition knowledge ... ZERO disease/drug knowledge ... who doesn't even own a vet book ... and has no clue or interest in learning about anything at all having to do with the CARE of these animals is not a dogman IMO. They are cheerleaders, or fans, or whatever ... but competent, truly knowledgeable dogmen they are not.

I do appreciate all the well wishers and everyone is correct once you see the sighns you will never forget them. i have every medication listed as well as some on hand in quanities well beyond my yards needs just in case. sadly this was my first and hopefuly onle experience with this , because without the proper meds you feel utterly helpless. I had all the meds flown in and or overnighted from as far away as south africa so this will never catch me off guard again. I learn something every day and am thankful for the ones who helped me especially this site and MAL-KANT kennels. againj thanks for all the responses.

I too am sorry you lost your dog.
Call me slow, but I am just figuring out you're the one who asked about the Berenil on the other thread a week ago. (Sorry, just drove across the country, and am now in CA once again.)
She should have made it, if you gave her a blood transfusion to bide your time. Did you try giving her a blood transfusion?
I got caught with my pants down with Little Red Sonja (http://www.thepitbullbible.com/forum/bulldog_profile.php?dog_id=23781). One day she's fine, next day she can't lift her head off the ground. Had no Berenil onhand. Rushed her to the vet and had to pay $500 for a blood transfusion (with BioPure), and then had Imizol FedExed to my vet ... and made the order to South Africa.
She made it only because of the blood transfusion ... and would surely have died without it.
I wish I would have directly told you to get a transfusion, but your vet should have done this himself (also says so in the article). If they get below a certain point, you need to bolster them back up with a transfusion while the medicine does its job.
Again, sorry about your loss,
Jack

Damn good post.
Took her to my vet had a transfusion done via a donor dog they didn't have the synthetic on had , they were having the imizol overnight delivered but my gyp didn't make it . Lesson learned , wish I didn't have to learn it this way but I did . My vet also learned from this and is now keeping on hand not only the imizol but the blood also.

A lot of vets still dont know much about it. I have been to a few vets and when i ask for the babesia test they say what is that or you dont need that test.

Exactly....thats why you take all your research to your Vet ( I know a certain website starts with Pit .. ends with Bible) that can tell them what to do. So true.. We took Ch.Caligula to the vet and he was gonna give him doxycycline and clindamicin. ??? I said.. HELL NO.. I had him do a blood transfusion with synthetic blood.. gave Imozol from my HOME supply, waited two weeks, gave imozol again.. then did 10 day Azythromycin and mepron.. dog is alive and well. VETS dont know baout this still. YOU have to tell the vet what to do and have the gumption to tell your vet he is wrong, and this is what you want. YOUR DOGS LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!
