Having the tank and storing the semen is quite simple really. Keep an eye on your liquid nitrogen if it runs dry before you notice you will screw yourself. There are quite a few farmers in my area who have their own cryo tanks for bull semen, one of my friends uses a cryo tank from a farmer for next to nothing to store belgium blue semen (cattle) and personal dog semen. The tank is your expensive part, not that the liquid nitrogen is super cheap but when compared to paying someone to store it for you for a year the nitrogen is cheap. If you are going to sell the semen to others in the future, or register dogs off of it make sure you have your dogs whos semen your freezing dna profiled.
My advice get to know some old farmers who are thinking of retiring, and see if one has the tank to sell you. Most farmers cash out on their farms, tractors, backhoes, etc. when retiring because those are the main things most farmers want or need. Could be a good opportunity to pick up a cryo tank at a good price.
Let us know how it works out.
