My partner and I are purchasing microscopes as we are always hoping to advance the care and upkeep of our yards. I'm trying to get the best info to know what I'm looking at on fecal, sperm, and any other uses. Can someone point me in the right direction to begin research?

I believe you need 400x-600x magnification to see semen. I have my vets old one, can see sperm pretty well. But I'm unable to see abnormalities.

Crisis are you able to see sperm abnormalities? I tried looking at the details of the one you posted but it wouldn't pull up. I like the streamline size of that one.

I wrote an article, "The Microscope and Today's Dogman" ... a long time ago (lol).

I will have to dig it up ...

This is the one my partner has ordered and I plan to order. Just wanted to do more research. S_B if what you say is true this one is just at 400x-1000x magnification standard settings. Seems like a steal.

OK now things are rolling for me. Was able to get ahold of my buddy who's a vet tech. S_B your right. Depends on the scope but fecals are done at 10x here blood is around the same we don't do reproductive work at my facility but sperm is anywhere between 400 n 1000x. That's abnormalities too.

Thank you EGK, I'll definitely check it out. The one I have currently is 600x I believe, but it's old and kind of scratched. I'm not that good at determining exactly what I'm looking at just yet either.

I'm gonna research a bit more though as it is interesting to see specimens even just for fun!

I found for a full stool examination I need a centrifuge machine to separate some organisms, eggs, and to check for possible cyst. Also was told make sure to get a full collection on semen analysis. The first bit is more fluids than concentration of swimers. I found this cost effective centrifuge machine for the time being. And a video on proper exams with and without the centrifuge step by step. Hope this helps someone else too.
