This big boy got a bump on his elbow, discovered it 3 days ago, and it got bigger.

My guess is that he injured it because of jumping up to the kennel. Someone else said its from laying on hard floor. Well they got proper bedding in their doghouses. They do sunbath allot on the stones lately. Friend of me said he had the same and put on tantum creme(Benzydamine) So that's what iv been doing last 2 days. I don't see much improvement yet.
Someone else I spoke to said his vet once injected dex directly into the bump. Dont know if that would be a good idea.

Anyone knows what it is exactly and how to treat it best. A vet visit is not preferable but i will if it doesnt get any better in a couple of days.

Could it be a spider bite ? Is it hard or soft?

Nut check these links.

Concerning corticosteroid injection: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1150517

Thats definitely it S_B. Thanks!

My english is not super when it comes to certain terms. If I understand correctly they recommend not to inject "dex" in the bump. I could drain it but than I have chances of infection? How about trying to drain em once a day whilst giving anti biotic.

If anyone had a succesful solution let me know.

Nut if it were me I'd have some one hold the dog secure with their arm around the neck and the dogs head facing the opposite direction.

Shave the area if possible, make an incision on the bottom side of the mass to allow it to drain.

Flush it with peroxide a couple of times then with either chlorhexadine solution or betadine solution a couple of times.

If the fluid that come out initial was smelly puss and wreaked of infection I'd run a 5-7 day course of antibiotics. Otherwise no antibiotics and just flushing daily (no more peroxide only first time). He should be good to go in a couple of days.

Good luck,

Let me clarify one thing to...an incision is preferred because if you poke it with a needle yes any fluid will drain, puss may not be able to escape though. And more than likely you'll be poking it daily because it will heal up (hole) almost immediately. The daily poking will sure enough make that elbow sore and cause more damage than cutting a small hole.

Also I'd make the incision large enough to put my finger in.

S_B thanks for your help! I took my stuff to the dogs to make a drainage but I saw the bump went half size over night so either its solving by itself or the cream is helping.

I bet the cream is helping to soften the tissue and the action of rubbing it in. It is a pressure type wound so yes that should help as well.
