I have a litter of pups that are 2.5 weeks old and out of the 4 of them I have 1 that has developed a runny nose today. I noticed it after the vet had closed and I've been watching her closely and the only thing that I can tell is different with her is her runny nose. The discharge is kind of a whitish color.

She's eating good and not displaying any signs of a sick pup other than the runny nose. I will give the vet a call in the morning or tonight if she starts to display any other sign of something concerning but was wondering if you all have had a young pup with something similar. If so, what did it turn out to be?

If there were any signs that I was overly concerned about I wouldn't be on here asking, I would have already been to the vet. But as I'm keeping an eye on her I wondered if anybody here has had something similar.

Thanks in advance.

If the discharge is whitish, could it be milk from her nursing and could she have a cleft palate? That's the only thing that occurred to me...

Thanks for the reply, SGC. That was my first thought as well but I checked and her mouth appears to be normal as can be. Also I figured she would have been displaying the issue the whole time but it just started today.

I appreciate the response. I will call the vet in the morning. She acts just fine otherwise. No other symptoms of a sick dog.

Yeah, cleft palate was the only thing that came to mind... How is she today and what did the vet say? Hope it is nothing serious, pups that young can die pretty quick if they get something.

That was my first thoughts as well, SGC. I checked her mouth and all seemed good. The puppy is acting fine, the only thing is a little bit of a runny nose still. I talked to the vet tech and she suggested to give her some amoxicillin so I put some in some water and I've been giving it to her like that. I think I may try yogurt instead of water but I'm going to keep giving her the amoxicillin for 10 days and see how she responds. The vet tech said it sounded like the beginning of a possible infection.

Thanks for asking about how she's doing and thanks for the response. Take care, SGC.

Good luck with her and hope the pup is fine. Sometimes a dose of antibiotics is all it takes to knock out a minor illness...

Please do update this thread and let us know how she's doing.
