what are some supplements, dosages etc one can give to a dog to insure optimal kidney and liver health? both for maintenance and post race. Positives and negatives as well. thanks in advance.

i take milk thistle for myself and have given it along with k-ease to canines before. Those who are experienced with this, how often would you give it for maintenance of kidneys? 1x a week? 2x a month? also is there any documented dosage for milk thistle for canines? i figured since it was formulated for humans one was more than sufficient for a 50 lb dog.
