View Full Version : Wrecking Crews's Gringo and Hatfield's/Steve's Gunner
Was looking at these dog's pictures and pedigrees the other day. IMHO this is another catalysts family of dogs. That should be considered for breeding, to any of the last Carver bred dogs that have not been diluted. Sure there is a little of it still around here and there. It is not to late to revive the old Carver dogs. Since Ed Crenshaw played a big part in the Carver dogs. These dogs could be part of the plan to revive a lot of it. Hopefully these dog men will get to breed their males back to their dam to get some sound females and keep this line alive.
A good friend of mine (Mc'leod) I helped years back in the dogs. Has a line of dogs that carry a good bit of the old Cotton's Bullet breeding. He has similar looking dogs with big bones and big Tudor heads. His mostly are buckskin with minor white markings/black mask and Black dogs with white in chest. Cheers

CYJ,
I've Seen many combinations of of the old White Bandit blood through CH Bullshit and Gonner. The dogs are very consistent even when crossed. High percentages and very well structured dogs.

Good looking animals and I heard nothing but good things about this line. Is Gringo or his bellymate brother up for stud?

Gringo is in Texas and has two brothers in Long Island. One with Red Tide Kennels (Grizz) an one with a fellow named Jason . Grizz is seal colored. The other is Black and White patched. and YES, CYJ is correct. You cross this tight E.Crenshaw blood with the heavy Carver, Redboy, or Bolio-Tombstone blood and you get absolute MONSTERS.

Real nice! Should be there all night.
Ditto splash747. One is Larson's Satin dog id=34055. This bitch along with some of the Red Becker's dogs were way back in the Mc'leod's dogs. Mc'leod's Precious was a solid black bitch with a white spot in it's chest. His dogs has a good bit of the Cotton's Bullet way back.
But not line bred and concentrated like these dogs mentioned above. Still his dogs are very stout and carry those big Tudor heads. Cotton's Bullet blood/Crenshaw blood is pretty well no longer.
Mc'leod's Luther dog id=59135, is a medium size black dog with white spot in chest. That carries some of the Loposay's Bullet II blood line as well. Still nothing like what the previous dogs mentioned above.
Back when I was first in the dog game. The first owner of Bass' Tramp Red Boy had some of the Loposay's Bullet II dogs. Name was Wilbur Martin and Wilbur bred Red Boy to his Bullet bitches before Bass ever got Red Boy.
My local deceased dog buddy Andy Howle. Had one of the last inbred Cotton's Bullet dogs. Was formerly owned by the late Mr. John Shivar and was named Shivar's Sambo. Was a great looking solid black dog even at eleven years old. Had a white snowball patch in chest. Sadly was to old and died the next year. Got no pups off Sambo.
I saw some of the last direct daughters or grand daughters off Cotton's Bullet dog on Mr. Howard Teal's dog yard. Thanks to the new semen freezing techniques of today. Some of that old foundational blood has been saved. Hope the Sadie bitch of Evolution kennels is still in good health and gets bred back to the best of those Stud dogs.
Years back I had planned to see about breeding my Young's Tina to I believe Moore's Bandit or one of those dogs. Was to far to travel, believe the dog was out in California. Back then long distance travel was no easy task and money back then was real money. Cheers

Evo looking at the profile of that dog he reminds me a lot of CH Cecil. http://www.thepitbullbible.com/forum/bulldog_dogs_profile.php?dog_id=62538
Looked like a damn bird dog, he was goofy as all get out. A gamblers dream, picked up his 5th and died after. The dog CH Cecil lost to cur'd his next showing.

Funny you said birddog.
I saw the first picture and said, "looks like a bird dog", and then read your reply to the picture.
The Cotton's Bullet strains went in a bunch of different directions. One thing that was a constant was they could bite. The ones we had/seen could all bite. And I mean really bite. The percentage of game dogs was average to even low. The ones we seen were best when on better dogs. They performed to the level of their competition. Put them on a beast and they could be beast X2. Put them on a scrub and they looked like scrubs too. Most of the ones that quit were usually on top. Sort of like, "I already kicked the snot out of him, what else is there to do?".
I am trying to remember the guys name who lived not too far from here in rural NC. He ran tight Bullet blood crossed to Molly Bee (Snooty/Molly Bee mostly, some Caesar/Molly Bee). Most of his dogs were white with patches, some bird dogs like, and on occasion the coat would be so white the skin ticked like a bird dog underneath. He won a bunch of matches in short order. The word was pretty much if you could get one to the 45-50 minute mark you had him on the next scratch. Getting to the 50 minute mark was a tough go.
My buddy bought a female from him that was solid white with a brown brindled patch over most of her head. I was split between cold and cur. She would not scratch but would maul whatever came to her corner. One of the harder biting and more violent shaking dogs I have seen. Just had no interests in scratching.
She was the carbon copy of the dog pictured above just colored differently.

Tge Gonner line of dogs is known for their steadfast nature. As a matter of fact, the "Tennessean" said he thought the redboy dogs were most steadfast until he saw a Gonner dog. The Tennessean owned Hunter Red. Some can close it, some can't, but the Gonner dogs, they'll be there.

Been a lot of it round my way and regardless of how they're crossed they will STAY more often than not. Not the best style, but they are damn sure programmed to GO!

I 100% agree. Add that heavy Carver or Bolio Tombstone, You'll like that style... and steadfast nature

EWO a lot of the stuff you said I can see it in them dogs but average gameness I haven't seen. I have seen some game dogs from this line. Way above average more like extremely game
It all depends on the strain. Cotton's Bullet goes in a bunch of different directions. Just like Eli or Red Boy or Bolio, depends on the selection process by the breeder.
Mr. James Edwards (RIP) had Stoney. He bred him to a number of bitches that had already produced. He threw dogs that could flat shut it down, plain brutal, but most quit on top.
This by no means covers all the strains of the Bullet family. Just one.
And with that said there are huge fans of the Stoney line. Good things could have easily skipped a generation or even the next breeding made them click again to get back more in line with the rest of the Bullet family.
My favorite dogs are Red Boy and the strain I like most he was bred to Bullet bred females, heck, Red Boy may be Bullet blood as well. Don't take the post as anti-Bullet. Just the particular strain around here did not make a good showing.
