Most today talk more about past history, especially of dogs they didn't own ,lol, than they talk about building better dogs for the future.

Allot talk about having the own families but really don't know the basics of creating one from scratch.

The past is just that the past.

Don't waste today stuck on yesterday.

You can build a family with any dog you like.

His past does not matter as much as his future.

I was taught a whole lot different than what's the norm today.

It's more important to focus on your dog and how you will build a line on it than it is what he comes down from.

Your dog may never be what he comes down from and if you really don't know how to breed dogs than you will lose everything it took to get the dog you have.

Here's an old breeding method I was taught years ago in the 70's and still use to this day.

How to build a base and family while keeping hybred vigor.

Breeding old and young dogs together.

I learned over 40 years ago how to build up a family long before I put together a family.
Unlike most I kept most of what I bred over the years in order to get the most out of my time.

But it is always easy. The last thing I go by is what some one else thinks.
It takes one breeder to create and maintain one standard.

The age means something if you buy someone else dog.
You need to learn it .
But when you have your own you just have to stick with breeding schemes and build on the ones that meet your standard.
Saves time, money and chain spots.

Breed more than one strain at a time and cross different ones along the way instead of trying to stick in a strait line.
You waist time focusing only a single path.
Dogs down from or related to a dog are the best to go with that dog.
Find a dog you like and build on it the easy way.
Once you peaked out it's strength's and know it's weakness than you know what to add to it.
Peak it out again and re evaluate again and add again.
Just that simple.
Hands on it's the truest knowledge and far exceeds everything else.
I have more than one method and sequence I used over the years but here is just a single method of using young dogs in a breeding program to get the best out of the best.
1st steps is always keep the full litter.
find the best and repeat.
If you pick one or two pups out of the litter than you did not
performance ones . You just picked based on color and sex. You must see them for at least the 1st year to know who is who.
Once a dog is grown and you know all you need to know about it the breeding scheme is easy.
Out cross it from 1-3 times breed at least 2 off it together and then pick the best from that and breed back to it.
Now that litter is 75% of the dog you like. You can then pick the best from that and add to it what it's lacking.
Then just repeat the process. Breed it , weave it and then cross it again if needed.
You maintain the positive traits and keep hy bred vigor at the same time.
Your foundation always changes also.
You can build it, maintain it or phase it out.
Once again. Example of using a breeding scheme that allows you to use young dogs in a breeding program while maintain old dogs standards.

The Grand parent-Grand child.
Grand parent or Sibling to Grand parent will be on both top and bottom of young dog it gets bred to.

1st Tiny .

Simple easy method of line breeding old dogs while using young dogs in the breeding program.

Each litter is always 75% of Grand Parent or if use a litter mate 75% same breeding as Grand parent.

I like that he can give proof to what hes saying (pedigrees). It also shows that he is standing on what he is speaking. Its pretty hard to find dudes that still live by these preferences...if a gyp has 8 pups 7 1/2 of them are sold. Studs with 20 litters but the camp doesnt have 10 offspring from him. The list goes on. But to see an individual speak on keeping what makes the cut then bring the line up....is truly raising the bar with any line you do this with. Hats off to Bossman this read was refreshing.
