It is all circumstantial...
Last ditch to save your yard, time crunched and need more dogs, confidence in all the dogs ancestors and relying on a family breeding to carry the load. There are a lot of reasons why someone would go that route. Much less reasons why they wouldnt... but when disaster strikes, that decision will be strained in your brain as one of the main factors when you begin asking yourself WHY

Breeding unproven dogs DOES NOT HURT THE SPORT OR THE BREED because anyone in the sport is not getting their dogs from these small time Tom Garner wanna be's and there are actual dogmen all over the world breeding from tried and true stock and bred for the box. The sport is much bigger and much more widely spread then most people will ever know.

95% of people you find on the various forums are PETBULL owners and are what I like to call casual fanciers of the sport...online armchair dogmen. I doubt any would have the stomach to see their pet in a roll let alone a match.

It's much easier to create a pretty online pedigree and boast that your dog is 8x Frisco or a son of Ch so -n- so then to actually take the risks and put in the hard work so that you and your hound can both stand on your own merits and not the blood, sweat and tears of true dogmen.

Breeding tested dogs only gives the breeder the warm fuzzies.

There is no correlation between what a dog can do and what a dog can produce.

The very best one can do is stack proven dogs on top of proven dogs and select the best dogs and go from there.

Agree with the above that the percentage of people doing dogs is minimal in comparison to the number of dogs out there.

There are well bred dogs from tested dogs that never get touched based on their puppy price, they were an investment, and in turn they will make a return on investment by making more puppies.

I agree the people that are truly doing the dogs seldom interact with the guy selling dogs from untested parents. He is usually dealing with a different click.

I think some people need a start. Some people may be trying to peddle. I think more often people are trying to protect an investment like ewo said. A growing breeder will be able to learn his brood dogs then have a litter. Ideally dogs should be tested. There’s no other way to breed well over generations. Breeders and match people have different goals and make different decisions and probably don’t run their yards the same. It’s dumb to kill off your first dogs. ewo is right. Some people may want to do dogs but for one reason or another can’t be involved.
