Recently a well known and highly competitive camp made the announcement that they are bringing out their 6 year old 4XW for his Grand Championship race. The dog has been living the good life as a prized stud dog for the past 2 years since his last treadmill race. In the boxing world there is the term Ring Rust that has always been a debatable topic as some believe it to be the case while others will argue that it is a myth. After hearing of the announcement mentioned in the above it got me thinking is there a canine equivalent to ring rust, thoughts ?

My thoughts are I'm of a mind that once a gamedog, always a gamedog however ones ability will diminish with age and I believe inactivity. I've seen dogs brought out past their primes and /or long layoffs that met with disastrous results, so I believe that ring rust can be a thing, depending on age and the amount of time of inactivity.

(The above thread is in reference to treadmill races and should not be in any way interpreted in relation to any activities that are illegal.)

I am not sure if it is age or rust, or maybe they are the same.

I think one of the even older adages is that in all of sport Father Time is the only one that stays undefeated.

In the boxing world you can come and go, and come again, but Father Time will always win in the end.

I'd say the dogs the same.
