Young dogman in va looking for a mentor in the area
Chris1230, that is not one of the best States to have a kennel of A.P.B.T. dogs in. Can only wonder, if there is even a good State anymore. Some dog men moved to ole Mexico or other foreign countries
Hopefully you live way out in the boonies away from prying eyes. Everyone has smart phones now. I know the majority of these newer Veterinarians. Report all incidents of pit bulls that show signs of being hurt or scarred etc.
Your Home owners insurance will be no good. Unless before hand, not after the fact, you buy a expensive rider clause for probably each dog.
Great majority of the real dog men are leaving or have left the game for good. I talked with one today that said they are finished with it all. The risks are just too high and they no longer had access to a good Veterinarian.
If you have a family and a good paying job with benefits. I would encourage you to try another dog sport. There are some great dog hunting sports in that state. Deer/Hog/Coyotes/Rabbits/Coon etc.

Definitely appreciate the advice sir. I’ve looked into and tried the other sports as outlets for my dogs but nothing is the same as watching a true apbt do what he loves.

CYJ has made some good points that unfortunately I can say are the truth . I would also like to add it would be tough to find a mentor because who in their right mind would bring someone into the fold and expose themselves to possible jail time, loss of home, etc.. . Especially someone they have not known 25 plus years and met online .

Definitely makes sense and would be a risk for anyone to take.

Go to some shows. Check out the boards. Talk to people.
Loose lips sink ships is as true a saying as there is and applies to the dog game as much as any other endeavor out there.
And at the same time the dog game has more loose lips than any other endeavor.
We simply have to tell somebody. LOL
Just read and listen, it is way more mentors out there now than ever, just not in the same sense from 30 years ago.

Some people need or want a “mentor”. Some cultures more than others. I’m more self directed. Read that book that California jack wrote. Read and article and think about it. Wait then read another. Read. Thar book has a good basic underlying philosophy behind it.
