hey all i am building a pen right now as we speak my dimensions are 5ft overall height the with is 4ft the height between the ground and the floor of the pen is 1ft . the overall length is 8ft the open walk around area is 64 in. the 32in left is for the enclosed area witch is for the female who breed to deliver the pups or for the shelter of the rain. If any of you guys got cal jack book you can build a pen like his witch i kind of took some inspirations from but changed dimensions on different parts of it but will post pics of very soon please guys post your for me and elaborate on why you build it that way and what materials you used

I would make the floor more than 12" off of the ground. At least 24"

i personally would make the floor 2 least 36" due to im only 5'8" i always find it comfortable when your building stuff to make it at least wast height so its more esay for you to build BUT! me and my kennel mate was having a debate about it he said since due to money and lumbet to just make it a bit smaller for now but its only for right now after this pen and the other one im building since of it being so small i will more than likely build something bigger and bettere for dogs to be kepped in for uses of: cleaning their chainspot due to flea problem, in heat, in keep , sick or in pup about to drop.

One of the biggest thing i love with jack off goung pen is the floor using 2x4 will last ALLOT! longer than wire also the dogs or pups will not get problems with their foot getting caught int he wire bottom or even getting the pups injured.

I built both of these in about a day (5x10 and 4x10), the only thing I changed was the addition of a gate on the front so we could get in easier for cleaning and feeding. I see a lot above grounds built with a dog house just placed in the enclosure but we prefer this set up especially when whelping. I would suggest using higher grade wiring than I used. The next one I build will also have a slit so I can slide a board over the entrance to the dog house then I can separate the bitch from her pups if we need to get a look at them or to keep the dog in the house while we clean. You may also notice the kennels are on concrete, this slab had a built in drainage system so all we had to do was hose out the kennels and spray the waste towards one of the drains.
