I have never bred for a color or even factored that in. If a puppy has a throwback color to one of his grandparents I humor myself by saying it is a throwback. Once we bred a Maloney bred dog to a heavy Bolio crossed bitch (carrying her Bolio traits) and one of the female pups had a white head and one blue eye. We had re-created Dirty Mary. Or at least that is how we made conversation. I imagine if one had intimate knowledge of a family of dogs over a period of time then recognizing a color in a puppy may be 'inside' knowledge. EWO
What made Silverback unique to my yard was 1) his color and 2) the fact he was one of only 3 dogs I have ever owned in 20+ years that could finish a dog with one throat hold.
What was interesting was the fact that Silverback threw a lot of seal-colored dogs, but not all could finish. In fact, most could not.
However, of Silverback's offspring that *could* finish, every single one was a seal-colored dog like he was.
Whether that means anything or not is debatable ...

I like to have a uniform yard I like a typical yellow lookin hound. That being said if I have a litter I always keep the yellow ones. Victor would do the same and send the red nose hollingsworth dogs to the usa. Here's a question wtf is the deal with chocolate dogs? I know its supposed to be a mutation of black. I have a little buckskin bitch who sire is a chocolate and throws black, chocalate and yellow dogs. So the bitch is coming in and she has two sons a red nose red hound and a black son I'm going to take her to one of them. So which son would produce more cola looking chocolate hounds. Seems like the chocolate ones are better for reasons I have zero fucking clue?

I wonder that myself, every chocolate dog I've ever seen was a damn good dog and not a cold one. Buddy of mines had a male come out chocolate, and when bred he kept all the chocolate ones but never the black ones. The black ones for the most part were garbage but every chocolate dog off him was show quality and had won a show or lost game trying. Never had 1 cull off about 25+ coco dogs. He hated Coco dogs but said that what was winning so eventually his yard because Coco and buckskin black nose. The buckskin red nose dogs werent great quality either. Also his Coco dogs didnt have mouth but all appeared to have same face style and were fast and would finish, his buckskin red nose dogs all could punch werent as quick but wouldnt even attempt to finish.
I just like my red boy dogs to be red red nose, not blue or brindle or tri color. I like my honey bunch stuff buckskin and so on..... Certain lines you can damn near look and tell by that coat among other things. I guess I just couldn't take a red red nose dog that was supposed to be heavy rascal you know what I mean I'd expect it to be predominantly black.
You have to consider the bitch also ToTheDogs. It's not just him, throwing pups. I have a liver colored bitch with a rednose who's sire is black and dam is buckskin with black nose. I'm sure them bitches your bitch's sire is being bred to have some yellow dogs somewhere up close in the ped and maybe inbred/linebred off one too. I do think color is a factor, simply cause the traits are carried right along with color IMO.
