Every single oldtimer I have ever met in my life calls their dogs bulldogs. (Not "pit bulls," not "pits," and most definitely not "hounds.") They call them bulldogs.
The term "hounds" is a fairly-recent internet term that, like I said, is being used by many part-time, wanna-be dogmen.
As far as I am concerned, they're bulldogs.
Now I may shorten it when I ask, "How many 'dogs' you feeding?", but I would never ask how many 'hounds' ... although I am sure many people have that shit mixed into what they have, judging by their records

I have to much respect for mine to call them mutts, hounds, curs. I rather not call them anything than refer to them as any of those terms.
I think calling these dogs "hounds" is kind of a limp-dick thing to do.

I think most of the people who call their dogs "hounds" are your typical, part-time, "not really" dogmen.
People who are truly passionate about their dogs are PROUD of their dogs, and what separates them from all other dogs: GAMENESS.

I never heard of hounds as an alternative word for bulldogs until I got a facebook account some years ago. I agree though. Most of the people being all incognito are the ones who don't have anything to worry about in the first place
