wanting to Make my own "tuff pad"

I want a pad tuffing substance that also coats the pad, like pine tar. But i want to add to it, not solely use pine tar. What is anyone experience?

Maybe this will help, I read this in an old AGDT. The cat mill keep.
Make a mixture of one part linseed oil, one part turpentine and one part burnt motor oil. With a paint brush, paint the feet every time you take the dog off the mill.

I'd never put burnt motor oil on my dog. Old timers love them some used motor oil.

I agree with you S_B I learned from some of the best no name dropping here but I always used Vaseline rubbed deep into the pad after every work out never had a foot problem in 40 years. Johnny

The best over all type Vaseline was the Carbolated formula. Vaseline no longer makes it. May can be bought in another brand name. Amazon.com advertises one on it's site.
I often wondered how well those dog boots worked that was used on the sled dogs. Later on I saw foot boots being advertised for use on the Fox and Coon hound dogs. Never found out how the booties panned out over all. Cheers
