I always bred working dogs & loved the head dogs.
Get a head dog with a lot of finish in him & he won't never have to worry about leaving.
Gameness is good & so are other characteristics in a working but when used for hunting a style can be the difference between life & death. I mix it up a little as far as style goes just a part of maintaining hy-bred vigor just as you do bloodlines but the head hunting's are the foundation style of my stock.
Allot of my dogs have been & still are used for hog hunting in the south. Some hogs down here get the biggest that wild hogs get .
One of my dogs caught one over 300lbs one time by himself because he was bred for the head.
And the ones closet to my heart out of the head dogs I breed are the ones that eat out the mouth & the ones that live in the throat. Take away your opponent's tools early & less the effort to win. I love the finishers who love the sweat spot. Once they learn it & find they go to it earlier & earlier in the hunts.
Hog Hunting is not for every one.
Some are real confused about it. They think there are bred different are different bulldogs altogether . They are not.
Same stock , same standard sizes & all just used to work no matter what the environment .
I made a mistake of crossing some stifle dogs in the bunch & wind up loosing a few more than wanted to because of that. Them old wild hogs would drown a dog quick or split him in 1/2 if he lose focused on staying up front where all of the action is.
At least two dogs from my yard even been seen a few times on Tv's American Hogger's a few years ago working the head as they were bred for.
Papers never did nor maybe never will mean anything to me. The only names that counts to me are my own. The only proven dogs in my pedigrees are the ones with my names on them. That's because those are the actual history I really know about what I feed.
A win is not always a win. Some times how they win is how you breed.

I love a good dog that can beat what you put in front of him no matter what , but I will always feed 1st the head dogs.

Not just a few of the dogs from my family but dogs that can be seen in every other generation or the belly mates to them used in hog hunting over the years.

You can breed for style.
I have been doing just that for generations.
Just something to share
