Yard Accident-Antibiotics
so had an accidental scuffle on the yard yesterday. the dog got bit in the ear pretty good and also a puncture under his cheek.
ive been flushing his ears with nature vet ear wash so far but what else would you reccomend as far as antibiotics go to prevent infection settling in on the ears and punctured cheek? im thinking fish mox, as it would help aid in ear infection prevention and bacterial infection on open wound.
thanks in advance...

With my pig rips or punctures i just use benacilin and an antaseptic/fly repelant spray never have a drama...

jack has put some nice articles in the database. amoxicilline should be fine imo

just went n got some 250 mg mox tablets and vetericyn.
im trying to keep his ear flushed with the ear rinse tp prevent bacteria & yeast, the thing is the dog moves too much so i did that the best i could by myself.
i know that your supposed to give 250 mg (1 pill) of mox to dogs between 25-50 lbs. but hes a roughly 60-65, theyre capsules so they couldnt really be split. so i gave him 2 of them today to to kickstart his healing process. then for the following week or so ill give him one in the morning and 1 @ night.
he had a warm bath with main n tail medicated shampoo to clear all the cedar shavings that stuck to his face. after the bath i sprayed some vetericyn on the wound. and then gave him the mox.
i know its not an overnight process, so fingers are crossed for a easy recovery.
thanks for the advice r2l!
