    Tonka Bear/Hellbend - Hollingsworth - Buck

What does each individual line bring to the table besides there fortitude!

Interesting question as each "individual" within each line brings different qualities ...

There are general qualities that each "line" brings, but that can be offset by various individuals within each line ...

I haven't seen too many Tonka Bear dogs go. Heard Hellbend was an ace, but overall don't think the Tonka Bear stuff is as consistently-game as the Hollingsworth dogs.

I have a lot of respect for the Buck dogs, but alot of them seem to be hit-and-miss: a fantastic dog here, a cold POS there.
Don't have enough experience with them to say for sure, but that is what I've seen personally with certain aspects of the line.

I have more direct experience with the Hollingsworth dogs. Many were stupid-game plugs, that is true. But they were tough as nails too
Because of this, I would feel a thousand-times more confident in their extreme gameness (and winning a long one) over virtually any other line of dogs out there.
Even Anthony Robinson (of Redboy fame) told me back in the early 90s (when Hollingsworth dogs were still really Hollingsworth dogs), "Jack, they're even gamer than my Redboy dogs," and he was proud of his Redboy dogs!

The Hollingsworth dogs, in pure form, may not have had the ability or finish of some of the other dogs, but they were more consistently DEAD FUCKING GAME than any of them IMO ... and they could TAKE IT too ... which is a good feeling to have when things get deep into the trenches.

    This is JMHO,

    Jack

Great question and I've seen some of all but nothing in the "pure form" so to speak in years. When I first got around dogs a family member ran alot of that Tonka stuff and he had very consistent success and dogs. That stuff was stubborn in my opinion but it was rough it was game and it was coming. He never had any "freak" type dogs pop up but he got the same thing over and over again and it was never going to be a walk in the park.. I know the word is that Hellbend was a very great dog and just a beauty to have but word is that they weren't happy with his overall production or his % but they can't all be great producers but it's shocking to say the least because you would think he would of produced great. But I think he possible could of been one of those "Bridge" producers. (i made up the term bridge) which basically means, his direct offspring might not be the greatest of the greats but they can be the ones that are used to as Jack states "redirect" the genes to get those high ability hounds. I believe Tonka Bear got bred a little more than Hellbound and he produced pretty good, maybe not as great as his father but he was known as a game dog around my area and most of the blood from him that snuck up this way were considered to be game dogs with little punch and that's when they started crossing it to some Termite & then Eli blood to get punch. Always thought if they just went back to some of the Boomerang blood or the Bolio/Boomerang mix they would of been great. Or back to some of the Anderson dogs as he used some Carver/Eli blood with his Tonka stuff. Instead of outcrossing and outcrossing and outcrossing to the blood is almost extinct. Just rejuvenate some of the blood behind it as I know Anderson had done with Aubern, Gypsy & Rose.. I wish I could find some now days, I know they say some of its still around off the Z-dog..

Ch Gunner was a heck of a durable bulldog.
I had contemplated breeding to him back several years ago, but I had my eyes on another male with the Tonka/ Hellbend.

I always fancied the Ch Yellow Wolf dog and one day I was at work and got a phone call from Big M. He told me that Benny had passed away and that Yellow Wolfs brother was on his yard and if I would go get him and take good care of him....I could have him. At the time my brother in law was in the Navy and he was stationed very close to where Marlboro was so I sent him to pick the old man up for me. I was so tickled when he arrived and after a good bath and flea dipping I allowed him free roam of my house....He wasn't a good house dog though.

I offered him at public stud and only a handful of people took me up on my offer. I wanted all the pups I could get off him. I bred him to most all of my best females and I'm glad I did. I got several good ones off him and still have a few I wouldn't part with for anything. I had a few people talk down on the old warrior but, the stories I heard from the people that had their hands on him proved to me that he was well worth feeding. Dirty Steve was a little upset that Big M didn't offer Marlboro to him first but I'm glad he didn't.

Marlboro died at the age of 15 and with the help of some supplements I had 4 puppies be born shortly after he passed.
He wasn't pure on the Tonka/Hellbend but he was one of my favorites.

Here's one of the males I still have, sure wish I could get him bred a little more but,...I'm happy to have him. He has a touch of the Tonka/Hellbend and also Baby Lively who was off Yazoo Cody and he was one of the keys to a few of Mr.Hollingsworth's best producing females.

Odie was another one from the Hellbend/ Tonka Bear line that done real well around in this area. He sired many good offspring and was a good dog himself. He was a rough and durable hound and passed it on to several of his offspring.
