Thread: female ovulation

    female ovulation

Interestingly enough...last breeding s I've done have all been with ovulation timing at brittmore. Here are results

    1. Miss machobuck ovulated day 17 from first blood
    2. Mona Lisa day 19
    3. Daddy Lou day 18

Seems to me that old adage of 9-11-14 doesn't cut the mustard

My wife started doing slides on females for estrus notification some years ago. We found that adage not to be true also. One of our bitches was ready on Day 7. We had another ready around day 20. WCC's wife once told me they had a couple of females that weren't ready until day 19-21.

Agreed. If they ovulate around day 21..then will breed around day 23.. which begs the question.. why on earth breed without ovulation timing or smear? From now on... Anyone wanting to breed to my studs, will have to pay for timing. Not wasting my time guessing at all. Plus... It's easier on the stud.

Not checking can be done when u breed with your own stud. My last litter was a 3000km drive. Guessing wouldn't be very smart. It's very interesting the difference from bitch to bitch. Day 13-15 are usually were my bitches are ovulating.

That's a long haul. What was the breeding

When I bred Hot Tamale the first time, she ovulated on Day 7.

When I bred her the 2nd time, she ovulated on Day 18.

Same bitch on two consecutive heat cycles.

    That's very interesting

Yes. I would have missed both times (once too late, once too early) had I bred the typical 9, 11, 13 ...

That's a lot of mouth.. anyway.. if I had to guess..I'd do 3 breedings:

    9, 13, and 17..

Semen stays alive from 5-11 days inside the bitch (11 when stud is young and at peak health)..that way... I'd be sure to get pups
