    Buyer/seller

Buying or selling dogs is part of the game and I know there are post about peddlers and breeders but I have a different topic about buying dogs for y'all. If you buy/ sale on here or not you have to buy/sale dogs at some point and I wonder how do y'all feel about those you sale to? Such as do you stay in touch with them after or more often do you not hear from them? I'm asking cause me personally I don't sale a lot of dogs but when I do I try to make it so that my stock goes to people that want to stay in touch. Often so I know how the dog works out or what they did that worked for them far as keeps, breedings, ect. And so that I have access to the dog later on if it works out or so that I can keep up with %age if it doesn't work out. So often I try not be over charge or under charge for good stock but never seem to get it right as my best turn outs that was sold on the low end. So what do y'all look to take away from deals on buying or selling dogs outside of money & good hounds or do you just buy/sale for money and dogs

I used to sell dogs, not "sale" them.

And, when I advertised, they would be for sale, not for "sell" ...

I would try to stay in touch with most who had them, precisely to get an idea as to how they were doing.

And, being a professional breeder, I sold them for money ... because without money it would be called a gift or a trade.

I always tried to sell dogs that would win or die trying ... though I have never believed it was right to actually let the dog die trying.

I would refuse to sell any dog to someone who was known to refuse to pick up.

Jack what subject are your degrees in?

As a breeder I know you was out for money but other then money did you have reasons for selling dogs to people? I would ask if you ever bought for a reason but as a breeder I'm sure you bought to improve breedings.

Other than money, my reasons for selling dogs was breed the best dogs I could.

I had an insane (arguably, literally, insane) interest in these dogs ... WHY they were so game and good (compared to other breeds) ... and I quickly realized they were NOT all equal within the breed itself ... they weren't equal in ability, in intelligence, in gameness, in percentages, etc.

And, having a huge ego, and meeting lots of dogmen, and hearing their ideas on breeding, I thought I could do a better job of breeding than most of the dumbasses I had met in these dogs ... and I did

Being of a curious nature, I always thought ahead ("I wonder how this would work with that," etc.), and so I put the key dogs I liked into the basic key breeding patterns that I learned were repeatedly and consistently successful ... and I too quickly became successful.

Throughout most of my breeding career, the desire for consistent, EXTREME gameness and percentages was my number one goal ... and, after that, I liked them to be smart ... and to fight a determined, methodical, head-controlling style ... closing the show when the time was right. And, within a few short years, my dogs pretty much did this like clockwork

Toward the very end of my breeding career, I tried to harness the finishing traits of Silverback, but it was at the tail-end of my career, and I didn't have enough bitches (or interest, quite frankly) to pursue it.

Still, even though Silverback produced nowhere near as many wins as Poncho, at this time he does have a 100% win record in the pups of his that have been shown, all of them showing good ability, and a few showing extreme gameness when they had to.
