    First Match You Ever Saw

First two matches I ever saw were on the same card. It was a great card for my then-mentor, Lineman, when Rowdy Kennels' Ch Rojo won his Championship over Mexican Dan's Wiggles, and when Lineman's Ch Pee Wee won his Championship over Busenbark's Walter ... as both of these males were out of Lineman's Fireball (2xW), a half sister to Crum's Caribou that Hollingsworth bred to.

This was back in 1990, and unfortunately both of those Champion males wound up stopping at some point down the road ...

Still, Ch Pee Wee was bred to his ½-sister Lineman's Rosa (the mother of Bandana's sire Rockside's Charlie Boy), to get the double-Fireball male Lineman's Lil Pee Wee (2xW).

Ch Rojo was also bred and produced Rowdy Kennels' Ch Mikey, who stopped Fat Bill & TVK's Ch Chomper from winning #5 and making Grand Champion ... by riding him out on the head into exhaustion/frustration ... but Mikey ultimately stopped too, I believe, in a later match. (Ch Chomper won 2 more, I think, and was supposed to be a real beast ... as long as someone didn't ride him out )

The Fireball blood was good, good, solid blood ... but for some reason never could get up there, win-wise. Interestingly, Ch Mikey's mama (Rowdy Kennels' Betty Boo), was out of Merritt's Jessie ... and Merritt's Jessie was the littermate sister to Merritt's Ethyl ... who, when bred to the pure Carver's Black Widow/Judy male, Carver's Bob Tail, produced the greatest head dog who ever lived, Ken Allen's Ch Robert T (9xW, 1xL).

Those were the days! Not much to worry about, in terms of cops or the law (there was no such thing as the internet) ... and I was just getting my own foundation stock together at that point ... and going through them.
Still, I wish I had the benefit of the internet back then, or at least the hindsight I have now, plus some of these pedigree tools, to research what-was-what back then when I had access to all of it.

What are the first shin-digs some of you ever saw?

I was in Romania, 2200km from home. Dont even know which dogs it was. The guys rolled against each other and both bragged their own dog was better so they decided to see who was in match. Match was held in the middle of some village just aside the main village road. Was told the mayor and the police knew of it. There were even young children present during the fight, lol. Was picking up my first game bred pups that weekend, so it was a nice introduction day.

First one I saw was a pure RBJ AAA dog in Dallas TX, against an inbred Maverick dog. Maverick dog dominated, but the inbred cowhocked dog out pulled him and the Maverick dog quit.

The first professional match I saw. Was when Bass' Tramp Red Boy pulled against Mr. W. Cable's big black and white bitch dog. Tramp Red Boy went at her just as if this bitch was a male dog. Was no let up on either dog till they went down in holds. Red Boy had a good solid nose hold on Mr. Cable's bitch. You could see Red Boy ever so often massaging it.

The pressure of this nose hold, unnerved this big bitch. Up to that point she had given tit for tat in the dog pull, showing Red Boy no mercy. This bitch broke loose and tried to run with Red Boy hanging onto her. Turn called and Mr. Cable's bitch stayed behind the line with Red Boy wanting some more. Tramp Red Boy made a strong courtesy scratch. Mr. Teal did all right that day, was very happy and speaking out loud to the other group. That his conditioning was still good as any. LOL

    V. Jackson was there and we became fast friends and later dog partners. Cheers

    Agreed. Great story.

Was probably "just a dog and a bitch" to you back then ... but whooda-thunk you'd be witnessing a what would become a legend

My first was a dog out of Pool Hall Red. The dog was out of Snooty or a son of Snooty, I can't remember.

(which, to me, is the greatest name in the history of the dogs. If you have ever been in an old smoke-filled, stale beer smelling pool rooms in the south, with an older and unrefined Red head sitting at the bar, that bitch has got to be rough!). (different topic altogether).

It went for a little over an hour. As a young kid this seemed like an eternity. EWO

I was hopelessly hooked on bulldogs anyhow, but my first show to attend was also in 1990, males @29 and went 2:12 with no turns or out of holds. The winner was a little Reuben/Bad Billy dog, and the loser was a very game Carr bred dog. This show sure didn't help my addiction, and I showed my first one just a few months later which was a W in :26.
