I don't know, but I cringe every time I read the word hound.

I also hate the use of the word hound.

Blackfist, you do realize that what you hate about the game has been going on for decades? Some owners then had class and respect, but there were plenty owners then that had zero class OR respect for anything.

It seems your longing for yesteryear isn't based in any reality except your perception of what it was like then. It wasn't like that at all. There are still reputable people breeding reputable dogs that have class and respect for their dogs.

A lot of the dogmen of the past were true outlaws, hardcore criminals. If you crossed them, they'd kill you. Of course same holds true now. But I think there are probably better, more honest dogmen today then there were in the past.

Most outlaw type dogmen are a product of their own demise. And with so much information at the click of a mouse, it helps somewhat to keep folks in check.

The problem is the radical. (In)humane groups pimping these dogs like a two dollar ho. They are far worse on the breed than any peddler.

The breed has become appealing to people who would have never given them a glance before. We've went from poodle to pit bull as the all America dog. And it isn't without consequence.

My 2 cent rant for what its worth.

I don't think the game has changed all that much over the years. There are classy guys in the game today just like there were forty years ago. There were con men and paper hangers forty years ago as well.

I think maybe the numbers have increased over time due to popularity (usually for the wrong reasons). The only difference or change I see is the internet. We now know more about the dumbasses, and the crooks and sleaze balls because that is just the way we are. Look at the newspapers or the other forums, bad things get all the press/copy space and the good guys get a small spot on Page 8.

I enjoyed my conversations with Mr. Edwards as well. I think he was an awesome guy. Some called him a peddler. A few times Wilson Electric called and asked him to cash his checks so they could balance their books. He sold that many puppies and dogs. Fact. He experimented with dual sires in the late 70's and early 80's. So all of his dogs are not papered to their true sire. Some would frown upon this, and today that person would get internet trashed/whipped.

I do not see all that much change. Good dogs in all the eras. Good people in all the eras. The opposites are true as well. EWO

You sound very upset blackfist but i dont know why. If you dont like what a person does with one of your dogs in their hands just dont put anymore dogs in there hands. One mans cur could be another mans treasure. Back in the day Black River Kennels took a lot of dogs from people after they quit and would put his keep on them and take the same 1xCur and make the dog a 1 or 2xw. And as far as the age is concerned you need to know your dogs capabilities. You should inow if your dog has lost a step or two or how many miles your dog has on him. I watched GrCh Pattie Cake win her last outting at 6 or 7yrs old and i didnt see a reason why she should have been left at home.

Can't stand the use of the word hound myself.

These are bulldogs ... not hounds ... or at least they should be

If they had class and respect back then, then how did Mr. Edwards' great dog get stolen?

How did Eli and Art get stolen? Or how about Bolio?

Stratton painted a rosy picture of dogmen ... when the truth is most dogmen are not found at the polo grounds ... they're found in pool halls, the woods, and the inner city.

    Not all, but most.

There is no respect today period. Too many people. Overpopulation = too many ill-bred humans.

Do you think that people only breed scatterbred dogs today?

There have been lousy, scatter-breedings as long as there are dummies with dogs.

I know an old-timer who's been in since the 60s and that is all he's ever done is lousy scatterbreedings.

Almost every great dog he's owned he bought at pitside ... because he never could breed them at home.

I don't know anyone who considers curs "game" ... but I know that people have been breeding to well-bred, high-ability curs for decades.

How did Bo get bred if no old-timers bred curs?

How about Boudreaux' foundation dogs that stood the line, and he took them home and bred them?

    How about Crenshaw and Rascal?

Do you even know your history?

And, perhaps more poignantly, why do you care so much about what other people do?

Most people don't "get" anything, which is why most people come and go in life without ever mattering.

What is the real meaning of a game dog to you?

For one thing, people have been hanging papers since the beginning.

For another, the majority of people are stupid. It could be effectively argued that worrying about stupid dogmen is just as stupid as what the stupid dogmen are doing

Simply pick & choose to associate with intelligent dogmen ... they're out there.

    I feel you.

I wrote The Pit Bull Bible to help people NOT make stupid moves ... and yet most continue to make them anyway.

Only a rare few actually care, actually listen, and actually strive to continuously improve ...

You can only do your own personal best, help people who want to listen, and (as your post concludes) "shake your damned head" at the rest

The bottom line is Stupidity is Forever ... there is no curing it

Green dogmen, with some brains, will listen to successful folks, adjust, discover their own truths, adjust, and will go on to forever improving themselves.

Green dogmen, who are stupid, will continue to think, say, and do stupid things forever

    Jack

    PS: Let's all pray now:

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
