A short reunion with my Ole dog Partner

A few weeks back, V. Jackson and wife Dorothy stopped in for a short visit. Was a great time of reminiscing of our days with the dogs, when we were much younger. One of his Sons and one of his grand daughters still lives in Beaufort S. C. Grand daughter was getting married so called me and let me know he was dropping in on me for a visit before going on down for the wedding.

Had not seen Vernon face to face in over 20 years. He appeared to be doing fine after having some health issues awhile back. Going back over so much, last thing I told Vernon. He should consider writing his book on his time in the dogs. Like J. Crenshaw and Bobby Hall did. His reply was that since he still had a handful of dogs left. Many of dogs up in age. He might consider it one day when he owns no dogs. Which might not be much longer since it is harder each year to care for even a handful of dogs.

In our discussion, I got the correct info of his matching into I. Jerry's Miss Pool Hall Red. I thought it might have been the little Shiloh bitch, but stated in another topic was not 100% sure. Turns out R. Swetman had gotten V.J. to conditioned one of his Carver bred bitches named Gold Pudding. I feel like that dog pulling event was so severe and Gold Pudding did a lot of damage to Pool Hall. When brought back out into D. Mayfield's Easy bitch. Pool Hall had lost a lot of her zip and go. I was at that dog show and do not think Pool Hall was rubbed as implied by the Mill Maker. Pool Hall was just took to the well to drink one too many times.

Another topic of interest that he told me of some years back. That he sold 6 young pups to I believe Bobby Holland that ran a lot of Red Boy dogs etc. Holland and Bailey of Bailey's Bingo fame. Both did dog dealings etc. Bailey owned dogs from V.J. and crossed some with his Red Boy stock.

V.J. said he and wife drove up to N.C. and delivered the pups to Holland. Was three males and three females out of three different breeding's off his yard. He thought but not sure that one of those pups might have been that Gr CH JR dog that Mr. Buford's son had in later years.

Before V.J. and wife left out, we all took time to ride over and visit with Mr. Truett. He was really glad to see us and talk dogs from way back when. May be the last time we ever get to see each other again on this ole Earth.

Have now got to meet again Tar Heel Matt, Vernon, Truett, hopefully soon Middleton and J. Spruill. Will about complete my circle of personal known dog men of years back. Most of the rest have passed on. Cheers
