ROM and some thoughts

I was following a story on ROM or not ROM by SB
I lost the thread

what I wanted to say based on all the comments was that as a dogman there is this urge to promote , I mean somewhere deep down if you think you have a good one , u want that recognition
u want people to know as the fracking cur from down the street is on every Facebook page and you know how easy he got famous

now famous is a two blade sword , when you say ROM you gotta go further and say how he got rom , cause people will look at it
if you cant or wont best not posed

its hard being there and knowing your dog went trough the wringer , met the best out there and your feeding him into retirement and nobody knows
it's hard to acknowledge
but always remember everything you post every dumb shit you say , it will be there forever
one day you might regret posting that dog you proud off

I know I have.

I have just been handed some info from a local investigation oh-wee they know a lot
Today I am happy I am a bit on the down low and a new generation is in the spot light

so when you post rom or champion its not so much about what the dogs has done its more about do you want hat info out there 10 years from now

Oh by the way I am not knocking anyone I have been close twice to have a bitch become ROM
and I am quite sure ( although I doubt it , it will still happen ) it it does I wouldn't be able to keep my trap shut

For me, especially later on, being safe was a lot more important than recognition. You get far enough long due to safety most of the time these days. Let someone else have all of the spotlight and recognition. It's not good for much now except to serve as a way to get you in hot water.

Great points both by you and Frosty. I live by the rule," Always have More than you Show and Speak Less than you Know". No one in there right mind is posting everything they have worth feeding at least I would hope some have wised up with the times. Every accomplishments is not to be broadcasted so there are somethings that will always be left unsaid. Just my two cents.

Hard to wrap your head around that at times but it's the truth!

A dogman once said to me "why have em if you can't brag about em?" Hard not to brag, but if you do expect the consequences.

A person can brag about their dogs to close friends in dogs. You don't have to brag to everyone. Everytime you put out a weight, show a dog, etc, you're basically telling the other guy "I think your dog is a cur, and I'm here to prove it." Not much more bragging needed really.

Simply put: All recognition aint good recognition..

I also look at it like this: If I don't know you, and you know something about me or my business that I dont WANT you to know or am uncomfortable with a stranger knowing, then either I have said too much or someone else has loose lips.

If i purchase an accomplished dog and the previous owners have made public the accomplishments I dont tell them not to do so. But I have left accomplishments off many public profile especially when those who had a hand in it did not see fit to make it public or when it was in my best interest

I agree with whats been said, Over year ago one was farmed out made it into a journal coveted by some( something i could careless about and avoid). No bragging was done about having good offspring and sibling of said hound and no promoting or posting them as " the brother of such and such" or the " winning sons and daughters of such and such". If and when an accomplished dog returns or is added to the program, it may or may not be online and may or may not have pull or hunt information listed for all to see. But a leak of damaging info will Never lead back to or originate with me.

This is a big a reason as any not to self promote.

I like pedigrees, pictures and war stories as much as the next guy.

At times they can draw a map directly to your prized possession.

I have been lucky. Knock on wood. No dogs here have ever been stolen.

But self promotion can cut numerous ways.

Remember growing up playing ball and my mom who was a track star in HS was training me and my brothers. Track, Football, Basketball, Baseball and Wrestling. We use to be pumped to get our awards and 1st place ribbons and everything. I remember winning one Basketball tournament, we were heavy underdogs and I had one of my best series of games ever. I remember scoring over 36 points all 5 games and semifinal game we were down by 20 to the top team. I went on a tear had about 20+ straight points and scored 64 points that game. I was pumped I felt unstoppable and the energy of the game had me everywhere. After the game I was celebrating with my team having a ball and my mom pulled me to the side and said, "Act like you been here before. If you trained to win, if you put your all in it then you shouldn't be surprised that you won. Act like you expected to win every time you step on the field. When you win you say nothing and when you lose you say less." I have lived by those words since that day in any competition.
