I'm curious, how many of you obedience train your gamedogs (or the ones that are house dogs)? I heard stories of Centipede and how he was a great house dog and the kids even train him to do tricks. Just wondering how many of us actually obedience train our dogs? Just basic stuff, come, sit, stay, down, etc.
I don't learn em any unnecessary stuff for me personal.
NO, go away and "doghouse" is the main things they have to know. for dogs inside. "come here " "go upstairs" "go downstairs"
i need pups to wait for their food and any other food wild dogs don't get to eat until im completely moved away after I put it down.

Same here. Don't bite the rake. Don't claw me in the back when I am raking. And slow down Hoss, I fed you yesterday and today and I will again tomorrow. Act like you got some sense.
I have never worked with verbal commands, like sit or stay.
My buddy has his trained to where they sit when he comes with food. He puts it in the bowl and say OK. The they eat. Mine, not so much.

The late samart had the dogs stay in there doghouse when he was cleaning or feeding
was a great thing to see , as soon as he entered a kennel the dogs ran into the doghouse
I got one dog from him called keyser soze when samart got killed in 96
he was a joy to have , I tried to teach the rest but gave up after a year

Got one that finally catches the Frisbee. Most just try and eat it or will let it land, but this guy finally figured it out after 6 months or so.
On the average they are pretty smart. They need time and effort and can accomplish just about any task.
I do use certain words, tones and excitement when they are doing work. The when they are doing real work I use those words, tones and excitement like a gas pedal. That is somewhat verbal command training. Almost anyway.

My 5 month old pup now knows no, sit, stay, come, down, and go pee, only had him for a week. Sit is probably the most consistent one and the other commands is relatively consistent depending on the situation. Teaching down is definitely the hardest for him just because he doesn't really wanna follow the treat or toy to a laying down position. On walks he definitely doesn't listen; especially if he sees another dog, he's a goner haha. I make him sit and stay before I feed him so he learn some manners and doesn't go crazy everytime he sees a food bowl.
@EWO: I agree they're pretty smart but I feel like they're thinking/lazy smart as in if they don't feel like doing it they just kinda ignore you. Different to breeds like border collie, GSD, Mals which are, in my opinion, more tractable.
Yes they are very smart dogs who love a challenge!
I also do that, and they LOVE IT! I've found the more verbal you are with them the harder they'll work for you. And I've seen things pulled off that otherwise may not have been because of the verbal commands.

my in side dog is potty trained sit down stay high five of go broncos and growl and bark for go raiders and when you flip her off lode up she will get in car or crate she will run her self if i say go for a run not the best but still pretty good with out a harness but she will still will kill a trash can if you give her the chance and is annoying smart gets in to or out of almost anything
