Nobody wants Tab, Dime or Pincher. Only one wanted Dibo.

See most people would choose dogs from way past. Does that mean the quality of dogs today aren't as good as it used to be? I can't pick just like that. But would rather have something that have success in the fast lane (or producing fast lane dogs) of today rather than 20-30 years ago. Not saying that those dogs are better or anything. But if the goal is to improve your dogs each generation, then imo it would be a step back to striving for dogs of yesterday. Food for thought.

I agree with you in spirit, but I think one of the reasons why "dogs of the past" are selected is simply enough time has gone by to truly appreciate their value. ("The Light of Time's Perspective," as the saying goes.)

Yet, while the dogs of today are winning today ... the flipside to that arguement is the dogs of today have FAR more advantages now ... in areas such as conditioning knowledge/aftercare knowledge, etc. ... that, by contrast, it took a pretty damned good dog to perform at its best to survive and reproduce back in the day too.

That being said, what dogs would you choose, today or yesterday 8-)

It's easier to pick "dogs of yesterday" as their records as producers already exists. And yes it takes years and years to evaluate a dogs reproduction (for several generations). I agree with you about the advantages about things as aftercare and such, maybe the dogs of yesteryears would have been even more legendary if they had the proper aftercare. That is all up to the owner, and one shouldn't compete without the knowledge to put one in shape or be able to properly take care of his animal after a hunt. But IMO the main thing is to know when your dog had enough. That saves more dogs than any aftercare in the world. With that being said. I should stick to my statement and pick dogs of today.

Vengeance and Chilindrina would be my picks. Picking 10 would take forever. Those are my picks just out of what they accomplished in recent times.
