In Rollbars keep a 4 lbs divers weight or neck weight is used throughout most of the keep; any opinions, positives or negatives to doing so?

Lots of people use weight collars. 4lbs does not sound like a lot but for most dogs it is about 10% of their bodyweight. For an average guy that would be a 16-20 pound necklace. I use one but it is more in the 2lb range or closer to 5%.

I don't leave it on the dog just during the work. I know some that do. The theory I guess is that the dog adjusts to being 'heavier' all the time. I am a big believer in rest. When it is time to rest it should be nothing involved but the dog and the rest. Nothing should compete with the rest.

But like most things in the dogs, there are a lot of 'right' ways to do things. S

As a witness to Rollbar's keep for a time, he only used the weighted collar during the time he dragged weight with his dog. He didn't leave the weight on the dog when resting nor when on the mill.

For me, that makes more sense but I wouldn't know enough about that keep to say when the weight went on and came off.

Was the Rollbar keep for sale a number of years back? Seems I remember that, may be wrong. ??? EWO

It may have been for sale some years ago EWO. Seems like it was, but I can't really remember to be honest.

It is one of those things like maybe I want to remember it more than I actually remember it. Maybe a case of the birthdays adding up.

I do not know if it were this one or maybe it was another so no disrespect intended to anyone, but my buddy ordered one some years back. I believe he paid a hundred or so for it. When it arrived there was like two or three pages folded in half to make a 4 or 5 page pamphlet. The cover page had picture of a dog on a mill, the inside cover had the story of a Jeep/Redboy dog who won on the keep, with a couple three testimonials and then maybe a couple of pages of widely spaced information on feeding and working. Basically it was not a lot of information for $100.

Either this was the one he bought or he bought another and he talked about buying the Rollbar keep. Simply can't remember. Either way no disrespect intended. EWO

Well, I would be willing to bet my last dollar that he didn't get something like that from Ted. Water under the bridge at this point.

I purchased Rollbars keep about 14 or 15 years ago.

This keep was on dvd format, not paper. It came with various little programs to open and view the many pictures and videos of dogs running treadmills, jenny, spring pole...It also came with a database of three dogs worked through their actual respective keeps showing the amount of feed, weights and work done every day. It had a simple but very effective dos pedigree program preloaded with many dogs including his own (unfortunately I can't open this dos program on newer computers). Blueprints for building a treadmill, jenny and making your own swivels, purchasing and raising puppies, prospects and show dogs and so on. I can't remember the price but it was much cheaper than $100. Rollbar was the first dogman that I met and I enjoyed being around him and listening to his stories.
