This link should be selected if you HAVE done the actual breeding. It is NOT to be used to post “prospective” breedings or theoretical breedings (use the Test Breeding feature for this). In other words, don’t clutter up the actual Breeding Database with a bunch of “theoretical” breedings. That way, you can see what you need to see, pedigree-wise, without actually adding false information to the existing Database.
The Addbreeding.php page itself is quite simple to use, and there are only a few fields to fill out:
The Basic Breeding Database Entry Field
To serve this illustration, I will add the Poncho x Coca Cola breeding to the database. All I have to do is click on the “Unknown” dog names, which will bring me to a Search Feature, and when I find the right sire & dam, and click on them, I will be brought back to this page again. (You will also notice that, once I added the dog names in the field, then an “Add Pup” hyperlink appears at the bottom of the page.) See below:
After searching for the Breeder, Sire, Dam, and then uploading a Photo + placing Notes
From this point, I will browse my computer to upload a photo of the breeding, and I will add as many pups as what were created by this breeding (in this case 4). Then I hit the “Submit” button and this is what I get:
All of the pertinent info is now entered and in full display, both for your own records as well as potential customers.
Now I have a full record of this breeding, including a photo, the names & number of the pups produced, my notes as a breeder, DOB & pedigree information, an inventory of dogs that comprise the greatest % of the pedigree, as well as a direct Wright’s Inbreeding Coefficient (WIC). Keep in mind that, although the default pedigree display is 4-generations, there is a dropdown menu and this system allows you to go 15-generations deep! While a 15-generation pedigree is too massive to look at properly as a display, the good news is the Pedigree Statistics and WIC become much more meaningful the further into a pedigree you go. For example, at 4-generations, the WIC of this breeding is only 6.25%, but at 13-generations it is 22.29%. However, if you have blank spots in your pedigree, then the data will be skewed, so make sure you have the WHOLE pedigree for however far back you are reaching.
You will also notice an Edit hyperlink in the top/center of the page (above). If you click this link, you can go back in there and make adjustments, add/subtract pups, etc. Keep in mind that in order for your pups to be displayed on the breeding page ALL of them will have to have the same DOB as the breeding!. Now, suppose I wanted to Edit this particular breeding, here is what it would look like:
If you decide to Edit your breeding profile, you can change the photo, add pups, etc., just by clicking the Edit hyperlink above.
Advertising Pups For Sale
If you are going to record and post your breedings and pups, especially if you are going to do so for sale, The Ultimate Pedigree Database allows for you to display both breedings and pups in an attractive fashion for your customers. Just enter in all your pups into the database, then make sure in the Edit Details section you synchronize each pup’s DOB with the DOB of your breeding, and then (on each pup’s profile that you want to sell) you can check the “For Sale” box as follows:
On each pup that you want to sell, click the “For Sale” checkbox in its Details
Once you click the “For Sale” box and “Save,” then back over on your Breedings Page the pup(s) on whom you do this will have a clear message to your customers that they are for sale:
This is a great way to display the pups you have which are available from the ones which are not.
As you sell your pups, you can just go back into the Edit Details of each pup you’ve sold, and un-check the “For Sale” box, to let your customers know those pups are no longer available. Remember, when you take the time to load your breedings into the Breeding Database, you can advertise them anywhere, not just here. Post your links on any other forum or resource when you advertise, because any person (whether they’re Subscribed or not) can see your breedings. This means you can turn this feature into a powerful resource for selling your pups :)
Thank you for taking the time to read these instructions IN FULL. Your doing so will not only save me time (by not forcing me to spell-out for you what is already covered here), but it will save you time as well, simply because you will be able to fully-understand and enjoy the full benefits of this Resource right from the get-go. I thank you sincerely for joining today, and if you have any questions not covered here, please post them on this thread. Thanks again!
