Winning 8 might be a valid argument for DOY ... but what were the credentials of his opponent, other than whipping a relative of Titere?

Titere met the challenges of other CH's & GR CH's, I think it says a lot about the dog and the camp taking on a younger 2xw who defeated his relative. Jack you've said yourself it is risky for a GR CH to take on a 1xw or 2xw because generally they are younger and have less miles and also if the GR CH looses he/she becomes less valuable (to some) and by old SDJ rules goes back to CH status.

    Yes, absolutely.

I remain a huge Titere fan and I consider him the finest, most accomplished dog alive on Planet Earth

However, within the context of "this year," I do not think what he did qualifies him for winning DOY ... but, within the context of his entire career, Gr Ch Titere would have the be the DOG OF THE DECADE ... if not, arguably, once of the most accomplished dogs of all time.

But the standards for a DOY title can't look at "the whole career" ... we can only look at which dog had the most accomplished YEAR, this year

His winning 8 does qualify him though, as a Candidate, and his coming from way back cements his greatness forever.

Whether he only remains a Candidate, or is elevated once again to receive the designation, will depend on all the facts laid out over the next few months, compared to other Candidates.

I hope he remains retired. He has nothing left to prove.

I agree Jack, Titere is an amazing animal with equally amazing folks behind him to show his potential. Dog of the decade he certainly would be deserving of.

I also like Nereyda thus far for this year's DOY.

I m biased towards Titere, he gets DOY every year lol.

LOL, that is the way it should be

He certainly has a fan in me

He is a great dog. More than pleased with what we have off him.

What did Puma do this year to qualify him to be a Candidate for DOY?

Jack I'll have to disagree with what you said about Titere. Though that last showing went over 2 hrs, Titere had no real struggle with Smokey. It was over long before the final bell rang. The opposition just refused to admit defeat and allowed their entry to be completely decimated.

Russian Bobby won over a talented 1x in his second showing well under the hour mark.

Puma is a good 2x that is on the search for a third. In the first once he got his feet wet, there was no turning back, and the second was no contest from start to Quick finish. For number 2 there was controversy as he was supposed to be going into Ch Smoking Joe, but after everything was all said and done the guys said it was not Joe, but a look a like with the EXACT same markings.....

That is what I thought the first time I heard about the match: Titere didn't struggle, it just went so long because the other side refused to pick up.

Regardless, Titere is Titere, and becoming an 8xW, which is something less than .0001% of any dog has ever done, is a qualifying accomplishment for being "the finest dog of the year."

    Thank you for the information.

But, to the person who mentioned him, sorry, that is not even close to qualifying for a DOY title.

    A nice win, yes.

DOY Candidacy though? Not by a country mile.

Sounds like a really good prospect, but again DOY? Not hardly.

It would be nice if you could take the time to enter the ped here, rather than post a link to that other site.

Don't worry, most people are too lazy to contribute, so you're in common company

Anyway, it's hard to say if the dog "really was" Ch Smokin' Joe.
A 1xW beating a Champion, to become a 2xW, is a helluva win, but again it is not really DOY Candidacy.
Now, if he beat a second Champion this year, to become a Champion, then that would truly be DOY Candidacy.

For example, last year Ch April II (3xW) would have won DOY here, were it not for the fact Gr Ch Titere beat a fellow 6xW and DOY to earn his 7th win.

In fact, I still feel guilty for not giving the DOY title to April ... because beating 2 Champions in 1 year ... one a 4xW in over an hour, the second Champion being an all-out-war in which April prevailed in over 3 hours ... is something so great and so special that it deserves DOY Candidacy and selection.

But a 1xW beating a Champion? I just can't get to DOY with that.
    Especially a "gosh-it-was-supposed-to-be-a-Champion" ...

I agree with all of that. Just adding a little to the conversation.

Hey on any pedigree I personally place here of my dogs I'll do my best and make sure its correct. For the others just as a conversation piece please forgive me but I'm not so inclined to do so at this moment.

Indeed April was a really good bitch and had every right to be in the top rankings. What she did in a year was quite impressive. DOA, 4xw, and 3 plus hours. She covered all bases.
