They are dogs that perform best over the long hall. Not barnstorming types. They tend to be defensively superior and don't get into too much trouble at all. Not a lot of crunch but they pick their spots and will make opponents pull up out of frustration. Good finish in this line.
Main issue with them is that despite staying out of trouble and being good game dogs they don't necessarily have the constitution to become titled dogs. Partially from inbreeding and partially because the Clouse genes dominate their family and a lot of the Clouse dogs that were used in the beginning where fairly thin boned to begin with. A shot of Maloney blood was added to correct that but that only can have so much success given that the breeder seems to still select for that dominate Clouse phenotype that he originally bred with.
There was a very successful KZB litter not too long ago that had a 1xw and 3 2xw but none of them could be taken to the well again. Maybe one made champ but I'm not sure.
Hobo Jack's sire was said to be a bad son of a bitch and honestly one of the better looking dogs you'll see. In recent years a few individuals have made it to the yards of others where they are being loosely line bred.
Shouldn't be too much longer to see how a refreshed gene pool affects the line.
DRZ, I am clapping my hands over here. Your perspective is pretty accurate. Especially concerning "Red Dawg" (Borrego). He was not typical. However, typical from that KZB stuff is okay with me. The credit to "Red Dawg's" variance is said to come from his dam "bitty". Nobody ever talks about his littermate brother who was also in town. None of us know exactly how he met his demise but, everyone in town said he was a more fancy than "Red Dawg". Either way, both represented exactly what one could expect from this family, even til this day. These dogs don't just come one way. There is a consistancy, but even within that, there are variance in speed, size, and in some occasions a stifle sniper will arise.
Case and point:
"Borrego" 2xW= quick and straight to the point. absolute nut-case!
"Ch. Hobo Jack"= very laid back and calm. (slow)
"Bert 2xW=very laid back and calm. alot of folks couldn't appreciate what they were seeing because of his pace.
Nice to make your acquaintance MaskMan. I've talked to several people through the years about this family and am glad another person can confirm I've been taught correctly. I'm a big fan of the Bolio Jr. blood which is how I came to be interested in the KZB dogs as they had a shot of the blood through Bitty. I saw that the lines were once again being bred to one another for example.

Your comments on Bitty are very interesting as Ch. Vengence is also 25% Bolio Jr but not out of Bitty. Still his performance is much like what I've hear of the KZB line of dogs.
He performed nearly exactly like I'm told the KZB dogs tend to perform. Face and mouth of the hog were targets. Vengence would go to the stifle but only when he matched at too high a weight where he couldn't dance like he wanted and would have to swap it out. I'm glad Lil Hobo Jack made it to the hands of someone knowledgeable to the line. Glad to hear about Red Dawg's brother I had never heard of the performance of his littermates. I've also recently become acquainted with Red Dawg's owner and he seems like a quality guy as well.

That "Vengence" dog seems like one to have. Love it when a chocolate pops up! As for "Bolio Jr.", it looks like there was 2 different Jr's. However, they are bred very similar and possibly produced "like" animals. Thats more of a guess on my part. KZB dogs typically are looking for the body. However, like I stated earlier, there are variables. We are now seeing more crosses as a result of more access to the blood, so in time these animals will be a hot topic. I haven't talk to OMG in while, hope all is well. We have some history and are from the same small town. There were some major players there and dogs were the only thing that enhance tranquility in the city. A city full of doggers, literally! Typical dogman gossip but the streets were left outside those bar-b-ques.
