Old Letter

Going threw my box last night, and I came across this old letter.. CA.Jack do you remember this?

Not to tag onto this but it did bring back an old memory about letters. If you have been around for a few minutes, pre-cell phone years, back will calling the next county over was billed as long distance you will appreciate a little more a topic about a handwritten letter.

When I was about 12 my first experiences in the dogs was handwalking for my best friend's dad. He had a phone out in the barn, which was big time because a lot of people in our neighborhood did not have a phone at all, and that is where he did his 'bulldog business'. Back then to avoid huge phone bills with expensive long distance rates people in the dogs (and people in general) actually put pen to paper and wrote letters to one another. Believe it or not.

One Friday night he was on the phone with Katie Marlowe about a Red Boy litter she had. In the weeks leading to the pick up and talking dogs in general he ran the phone bill up well over a hundred dollars. Over a hundred dollars just on long distance about the dogs. We were loading up the coon hounds when his wife came out in a rage. We waited all week to hunt on Friday night and that family battle cancelled the hunt. Remember it like it was yesterday. First time I ever heard a lady curse like that. "Write a f***ing letter".

I see several people post a letter that they received from another dog man back in the day and it carries nostalgic value. It may be a true sign of age as with the advent of cut rate cell phones, text and email, (and the forums as well) very few put pen to paper anymore.
