((( BREEDINGS THAT YOU WISH YOU DID, BUT DIDN'T )))

How many of you have had great opportunities staring you right in the face, but let them pass you by for whatever reason?

Or, worse, how many of you have made key breedings ... only to have them not take? Frustrating as hell, isn't it?

Well, I thought I would start a thread topic on showcasing the "if only" breedings each of us WISHED we would have made ... "if only" we had it to do over again ... or the key breedings we actually did do, but (for whatever reason) it didn't take. Below are two breedings I actually did do, but (as fate would have it) neither one of them took ... for, little did I know at the time, Stormbringer was very, very INfertile and only hit 3x out of 17 breedings I did with him.

      ...................................... ...... Mason's Bolio Jr.
      ......................... Vise-Grip's Coca Cola

I think these two breedings would have been two of the most influential breedings I could have made ... and, in fact, I did make them ... but, unfortunately, neither one of them took :o

    Let's see yours

NICE TOPIC JACK 8-) . THOSE WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE BREEDINGS HAD THEY TOOK.

    I GOT A FEW

MY PARTNER DID THIS ONE AND IT DIDN'T TAKE (BUT WE WILL TRY AGAIN).BUT BEFORE MY
PARTNER'S BREEDING I HAD THE BITCHE'S SISTER AND WAS WAITING TO BREED TO THE SAME MALE
WHEN HE CAME BACK TO US (BECAUSE HE WAS LOANED OUT), MY BITCH ENDED UP DYING ABOUT A WEEK AND HALF BEFORE HE
GOT BACK (WASN'T PAYING ENOUGH ATTENTION TO WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH HER , YOU LIVE AND LEARN)

So many people breed to "the convenient dog" rather than the best dog for their yard, long-term ... and thus is how the quality of a yard goes right down the shitter.

I can think of a lot of fellows who have bought dogs from me, who "should have" bred to the key dog in their dog's pedigree, while he was here on my yard, but who were too lazy to do so ... and who thus turned their gold into copper by mixing-in lesser elements ...

Thankfully, I made a promise to myself before I ever made my first breeding, that I would ALWAYS breed to the dog I thought best met my needs and NEVER breed to what was simply "convenient", after researching endless pedigrees and asking "WHY wasn't such and such breeding made with this dog!?!?" and the frustration that resulted from that feeling. Most of the time, the answer was laziness or lack of preparation. I'd much sooner skip a heat than put one of my bitches through anything less than what I, personally, consider a great breeding and asset to my yard. As such, I have been VERY satisfied with every breeding I've ever made, and will start to learn the success rates of them this coming spring (!!!!).

That being said, I do regret never having bred this boy, after having him on my yard for four years -- http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/pu ... _id=311431 -- I never did own a bitch that I thought would've complimented him perfectly, so I never stuck him to anything, but I should've opened him to outside offers a long time ago instead of just enjoying him as a companion.

It's funny, I planned to move my yard in a slightly different direction, but I'm so used to my puppies looking like SUCH quintessential "Buck/Mayday" clones, that the babies I have on the ground now throw me. They've got a nice dose of Buck blood in them, but they don't have the FULL drop ears, or the stretched-out length to their bodies, the huge feet or the long snouts. They obviously pull more from the Bolio side of things, compact, shorter muzzles, rosebud ears. They're nice looking puppies, to be sure, but I certainly miss my little Buck beauties running around
